CONFLICT RESOLUTION
Work through disagreement with care
A difficult conversation can leave people uncertain about what to say or how to begin. Different expectations, assumptions, and priorities can turn an issue into a recurring source of tension.
GrowSQ helps individuals and teams develop skills for addressing disagreement. We make space to understand the situation, prepare a constructive conversation, and consider what an agreed way forward might require.
Understand what is happening
Explore the concerns beneath the disagreement, the part culture and communication may play, and your own response to conflict. Recognising how tension develops can help you choose a more thoughtful response.
Consider how culture, personal experience, and assumptions shape what each person sees. Explore your natural response to conflict and practise pausing to separate observations from interpretations.
Practise the ALERT approach
The ALERT model connects three practical parts of a conversation:
- Active Listening. Hear the other person’s concerns, ask clarifying questions, and check that you have understood.
- Express Concerns. Explain what you have observed, how it affects you, and what needs attention, with care for your words and tone.
- Resolution Together. Explore options, identify areas of agreement, and decide on next steps that those involved can accept.
Build skills for difficult conversations
We focus on attentive listening, clear verbal and non-verbal communication, managing your response under stress, and separating what happened from what you assume it means.
For church and ministry settings, biblical reflection can support discussion of peacemaking, forgiveness, accountability, and reconciliation. Rebuilding trust takes time and depends on the choices and actions of those involved.
Look beyond the immediate disagreement
Lasting progress may require clearer roles, different communication habits, or a change in how decisions are made. We help you consider these patterns as well as the conversation in front of you.
Tell us whether you need to prepare for a conversation or develop conflict resolution skills within a group. We will discuss the situation and the support that fits.
Let’s talk about your next step
Tell us what you would like to work on. We will explore a suitable starting point together.
